Direct Investment
In the first 3 quarters of 2006, the UK was the largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Russia, investing a total of US$6,311 mln., or 17.9% of total investment into the country. Nearly half of this investment was in wholesale/retail trade sectors (47.7%), with processing industries, transport and communications, and coke and oil goods production accounting for the main portion of the remaining investment (45.1%).
Bilateral Trade
2006 was a record year for Russian exports to the UK, with the UK being Russia's 5th largest export market within the European Union. Within the EU, the UK was also the fifth largest source of imported goods, accounting for 6.7% of total imports.
