Russian Revolution: Hope, Tragedy, Myths

Fri 28 Apr – Tue 29 Aug 2017

To mark the 100 year Anniversary of the Russian Revolution, the British Library will be drawing on its rich collection, alongside some unique and revealing loans, to recount one of the 20th Centuries most compelling and impactful historical events.

Focusing on the lives of ordinary Russian people, this exhibition will take a fresh look at the Russian Revolution, its key players and some of its most dramatic moments. Drawing on rare items such as Nicholas II's Diary, a draft of Trotsky’s speech and dramatic propaganda materials, this varied collection of items carefully re-counts the multi-layered and complicated history with an unbiased eye.

Take a fascinating journey with us from the final days of Russia’s last Tsar to the rise of the world’s first communist state and understand the legacy of the Russian Revolution on modern Russia and global politics.
