England vs. Russia

Wednesday 12 September saw a networking event with a difference, thanks to the new football-mad Executive Director and the generosity of VTB Bank Europe! When Stephen joined the Chamber in July he said that he had spotted two extra networking opportunities, when England and Russia meet on the football pitch in the European Championship qualifiers, at Wembley on 12 September and Luzhniki on 17 October. Although we were unable to furnish members with tickets for the match, VTB took up the challenge to show that Stephen is not totally crazy and provided a great evening of food, drink and merriment (OK, for some of us more than for others, given the result) as we watched the game on giant TV screens in a pub in the City. 100 people have cause to say a huge "thank you" to VTB for sponsoring the event. The most amusing moment of the evening came when Stephen was refused service at the bar, because they thought he had gatecrashed the event; to add a bit of colour he had swapped his usual suit and tie for an England football shirt! We're all looking forward to the return encounter...
