On 23 October 1916, the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce was incorporated into the Register of Joint Stock Companies in London, "for the promotion of commerce between the British and Russian Empires".

On 29 November 1916, the first RBCC event, Business Breakfast, was held at The Savoy Hotel in London.

On the 16 March 1921, after a few bleak years for Russo-British business following the 1917 revolution, trade relations between the UK and the now Soviet Union are restored with the establishment of the Soviet Trade Delegation in London. The Delegation was opened under Leonid Krasin, future People’s Commissar for Foreign Trade, and the RBCC has a close relationship with the organisation to this day.

In October, the sub-committee of the Executive Council of the RBCC published the Directory of British manufacturers and their products in the Russian language, to aid the promotion of British businesses in the USSR.

Foreign Trade In The First Half Of 1933

Following the war, the Chamber continued to assist in arranging trade missions for Soviet representatives to British works and installations. In 1959, the Anglo-Soviet Five-Year Trade Agreement was signed, marking a turning point in Soviet-British Business relations.

The British Prime Minister Mr Harold Wilson and USSR Trade Representative Mr Gordeev open the new offices of the USSR Trade Delegation in December 1969.

The first ever BSCC AGM to be held in Moscow took place in 1983, leading to a biennial tradition that resulted in the largest trade missions ever to go to the USSR. In 1985, there were 170 members from 120 countries taking part.

On 31 March 1987, the first BSCC representative office in Russia is opened in the Centre of International Trade in Moscow by UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Following the ceremony, the PM addressed RBCC members and press.

In 1998, the RBCC is granted Royal Patronage as His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent becomes Patron of the Chamber.
